Hillside lots, terraced yards, and driveways that drop away from the house. This is where a tracked machine earns its keep — a wheeled grinder on a wet slope either can’t get there or tears up the lawn getting there. The SG-75 walks it.
Grade also affects the grind itself. On a slope we’re working to a depth below the downhill side, not the uphill one, which is a detail some quotes miss and then charge for later.
Older homes near downtown & Crown Park
Mature canopy, deep lots, and side yards that were laid out long before anyone thought about getting equipment into a backyard. Gates here are often the constraint, not the stump.
Our machine is 35 inches wide, so a standard 36-inch gate works — but a tight 90-degree turn right behind a 36-inch gate doesn’t, and it’s worth mentioning when you send the photo. If access won’t work, we can pull a fence section and put it back.
Grass Valley & east Camas
Newer construction, bigger lots, and a lot of stumps left behind from clearing and landscaping rather than from a single tree coming down. These are often multi-stump jobs.

Near Lacamas Lake & the greenbelts
Properties backing onto the lake, the trails, or a wooded belt tend to have the biggest root balls in town — decades of undisturbed growth and root flare that spreads well past the trunk.
This is the area where measuring across the trunk instead of the full root ball produces the most wildly wrong quotes. Run the tape edge to edge on the mound.
What We Grind in Camas
Douglas fir and big-leaf maple make up most of what we take out here, with western red cedar close behind. Each behaves differently under the wheel:
- Douglas fir — straight grain, predictable, grinds clean. The deep taproot means a deep grind costs more here than on a shallow-rooted species.
- Big-leaf maple — the wide one. Root flare on a mature maple can run half again the trunk diameter, which is why maple quotes surprise people. Measure the mound, not the trunk.
- Western red cedar — stringy and fibrous rather than brittle. Slower going, and it throws long chips instead of clean ones.
- Fruit and ornamental — old plum, cherry, and apple in the established neighborhoods. Small, quick, usually under our minimum on their own, so worth bundling.
If your tree is already down and you’re left with the stump, grinding it is normally just yard work on your own property. If the tree is still standing, that’s a different question — Camas does issue tree permits, and rules can be tighter near shorelines, steep slopes, and critical areas. Ask the City of Camas before it comes down, not after.

Do you charge more to come out to Camas?
No. We’re based in Camas, so there’s no travel premium built into the number. Same by-the-inch rate you’d get anywhere in our service area.
My backyard is only reachable through a gate. Will the machine fit?
The grinder is 35 inches wide, so a 36-inch gate clears it — as long as there’s room to turn once through. Tight corners immediately behind a narrow gate are the usual problem, not the gate itself. Send a photo of the gate along with the stump and we’ll tell you before we arrive. If it genuinely won’t fit, we can remove and reinstall a fence section — quoted with your job.
Can you get to a stump on a Prune Hill slope?
Usually, yes. The machine is tracked rather than wheeled, which is exactly the difference that matters on grade and on soft ground. Send a side-view photo showing the slope and we’ll tell you honestly if it’s a problem.
How fast can you actually get here?
Most Camas jobs go on the schedule the same week. Being ten minutes away rather than forty means a cancellation elsewhere often turns into a same-day slot for a local job.
What happens to the wood chips?
They stay on site by default — we spread and level them across the depression as mulch rather than leaving a pile. If you want them hauled off, say so in the quote request and we’ll price it.
